S & B offers an array of training opportunities for its employees. The speed at which an employee advances their education is largely dependent on the employee’s desire to learn. S & B is an NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) accredited training facility with regularly scheduled classes in all Crafts. You can progress from Helper to Craft Professionals in this nationally recognized Craft program. NCCER Certified Instructors will help you learn and grow in your job, setting the stage for advancement. How far will you go? It’s up to you!.
Training and maintaining a well-trained workforce
Training programs are administered by S & B master trainers certified by NCCER. The S & B training programs develop the skilled craft individuals of the future under the guidance of experienced and trained craft employees. Our pre-employment knowledge based selection results in craft employees that have the right skills to meet the job requirements.
- New Hire Orientation
Upon hire, All S & B employees and subcontractors must attend the S & B Safety Orientation and jobsite indoctrination. Safety requirements for the plant or facility are thoroughly explained and reviewed. The orientation presentation is designed to communicate S & B’s total commitment to safety.
- Safety Training
Safety accessory training, which includes confined space, lockout-tagout, fire watch, etc., may or may not be required in orientation depending on jobsite requirements.
- Small Tools Training
Small tools training is mandatory for new hire helpers and will be administered for Journey level new hire employees on an as-needed basis. Small tools training must be completed within 5 working days and requires refresher training every 12 months.
- Supervisory Academy
This 40 hour program is to ensure the success of all supervisors employed with S & B. The Supervisor’s Academy was developed to build each supervisor’s management skills and increase their effectiveness of managing people. Supervisor’s Academy is required before an employee is allowed to supervise others.
EEOC Training – Developed to ensure compliance to federal laws regulating discrimination based on age, race, national origin, sex and religion. This course is required for all supervisors every six months.
Computer Based Training – Developed to review S & B’s policies, procedures and internal systems applicable to the S & B supervisor.
- Careers for Success Program
S & B utilizes the NCCER Contren Learning Series resources to offer curricula in the various craft skills and competencies required in the industrial construction sectors. When an employee successfully completes the training, the achievements are submitted to the NCCER Automated National Registry. Training is available to all employees in all crafts and offers the opportunity for advancement.
- Task-based Training
The Task Based Training Program is for the advancement of the S & B craftsperson. The Task Based Training Program is intended to accelerate the development of specific craft skill sets required for project execution activities in industrial construction. The program is designed to provide focused training to individuals demonstrating the ability to become journeyman craftsmen.
- Welding Program
The Welder Training Program has been designed to identify those individuals who are looking to advance their basic welding skills or identify those individuals who demonstrate the aptitude to learn the technical skills of industrial welding.
- NEAT (New Employee Accelerated Training) Program
The objective of the New Employee Accelerated Training (N.E.A.T.) Program is to identify incoming applicants for S & B with no previous experience in a specified craft. This 12-week program will allow participants to learn and develop essential skills to perform as an experienced craft helper in a safe, efficient manner before assignment to the field.
